The 40th Southern Cross Brigade

the place to be in '23

The Southern Cross Brigade offers Australian and New Zealand friends of Cuba the opportunity to learn more about the island nation's unique, yet often misunderstood, political history and to participate in Cuba’s rich cultural heritage. As Cuba, Australia and New Zealand reopen, there is no better time to join the brigade and to find out what life is like in socialist Cuba!

For the 40th Anniversary Brigade, you can expect to be in Cuba from late December 2023 until mid-to-late January 2024 and for a cost of around $1,500AUD (excluding flights) for all Brigade accommodation, basic food and travel expenses.

The preliminary program will include a stay at the Korimakao youth art project, a visit to the Island of Youth and a range of activities at various social projects (environmental, health, education) and enterprises (cooperatives and small/medium factories).

Highlights of the 2022-23 program included a multi-day stay in the Korimakao youth art project, exchange with LGBTIQ social projects and the Federation of Cuban Women, attendance at the National Ballet, visits to the Fidel Castro Centre and Che Guevara Mausoleum, visits to small and medium enterprises, hospitals and schools, and much more!
