International Tourism Fair Kicks Off in Havana

The 30th International Tourism Fair FITCUBA 2010 opened on Monday with the launch of a new campaign promoting the Cuba Destination at its traditional venue, the Morro-Cabaña Fortress in Havana.

At the opening Tourism Vice-Minister María Elena López highlighted Cuba’s development of a sustainable tourism that mixes the natural and cultural riches of the country with the hospitality of a people with high human values in an environment of safety and peace.

With more than 500 exhibitors and visitors from different nations, this year’s fair will center on Events and Incentives, Eastern Cuba and Russia as the guest of honor country.

According to the Cuban Tourism Ministry, the program of the event includes lectures about the development of the sector in the island, negotiation rounds and presentations by the group Marina Marlins and local travel agencies Cubatur, Cubanacan, Havanatur, Gaviota Tours, Paradiso and Ecotur.

Participants in the fair will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about the tourist attractions of Eastern Cuba through familiarization trips scheduled for the last few days of the event, wrapping up on May 8.

They will visit the provinces of Camagüey, Las Tunas, Holguin and Santiago de Cuba.
