One of the first events of this year’s Arts Festival was the opening of the exhibition “Aotearoa Liberators, Cuba-Aotearoa Poster Project” at Salamander Gallery.
The posters in the collection were designed by prominent New Zealand artists and printed in the legendary screen-print shop of the ICAIC (Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográfica) in Havana, Cuba. Mexican-New Zealander artist Xavier Meade, present at the opening, initiated the project.
