"If anybody harbors a terrorist, they're a terrorist. If they fund a terrorist, they're a terrorist. If they house terrorists, they're terrorists. I mean, I can't make it any more clear to other nations around the world."
U.S. President George Bush, November 26, 2001
“It is impossible to wipe out terrorism if some terrorist acts are condemned while others are tolerated, justified or simply manipulated to promote political interests.”Cuban Ambassador to UN, Rodrigo Malmierca, May 6 2008
When it comes to the U.S. War on Terror hypocrisy is rampant, especially in regard to Cuba. Last Friday (May 2) self-professed terrorist Luis Posada Carriles was guest of honor at what the Miami Herald described as a ''coming-out party''.
Posada who engineered the destruction of a Cuban airliner in 1976, killing all aboard now lives in Florida, undisturbed. The 80-year-old had, the Herald informed its readers, “largely kept a low profile since a federal judge in Texas tossed out a grand jury indictment against him a year ago”.

A year ago today (May 8) to be precise.
Here we have a man who admitted to murder and terrorism openly living among his peers in the heartland of anti-Cuba terrorists.

The duplicity is astonishing. As the United States pursues its War Against Terror, holding suspects in secret jails and incarcerating hundreds at the illegally-occupied naval base at Guantánamo Bay, it accuses Cuba of being a ‘state sponsor of terror’.
In highlighting this repugnant situation Cuban UN Ambassador Rodrigo Malmierca , noted the first anniversary of Posadas’ release in an address to the UN Security Council on Monday (May 6).
In describing Posada as "the most notorious international terrorist in the Western Hemisphere” Malmierca lamented the lack of action on the evidence of flagrant violations of the resolution 1373. Evidence provided repeatedly to both the Security Council and UN Committee against Terrorism.
“ Cuba” Malmierca stated, “appears once again before the Security Council to denounce and condemn, in the strongest terms, the conspiratorial inaction of the US Government and the protection granted to Posada Carriles”.
Adding that the Cuban Government demands his extradition to Venezuela or his trial in the United States, in line with article seven of the Convention for the Repression of Illicit Acts against Civil Aviation Security, for the airline bombing.
In contrast with this, said Malmierca, the US has held five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters in US prisons for nearly ten years.
“These men were to gather information about Miami-based terrorist groups and prevent violent actions, thus saving the lives of Cuban and US citizens,” he added. Cuba he stressed demands the release of Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, Antonio Guerrero and René González.
